Deciding to Make a Joke Real Before I've Even had a Chance to Make the Joke

While I was in the shower, I thought of the post:

oh, so you like movies? name 1,001 of them you should see before you die

Unfortunately, I was in the shower so I couldn't easily post it and had to stew on it instead. Why couldn't I make my own list of 1,001 films to watch before you die? I've probably seen that many. I could probably earnestly recommend several hundred.

Now, months and months ago, my buddy Richard asked me to recommend some horror movies because he wanted to check out the genre in October. I made a big list of like 100 movies with the idea of formatting it in terms of movies that I think are important to the genre and then what to watch next if any given one piqued his interest. Having let the scope creep incredibly like that, I never actually sent him the list as I was still working on it (two other people he asked actually were helpful and then I made a few suggestions based on their great lists). My next plan was to post it to Cohost but then it was shutting down and I was busy so it's lingered in this partially completed state ever since.

So, fuck it. I am going to make my own list of 1,001 movies you should watch before you die and it is helpfully going to recommend what else you might want to watch if you like any given film. I'm not going to make it all at once because clearly it will just never get done but I am going to make a tentative list over on One Gross Online of X Movies You Should Probably See Before You Die. I am going to commit to adding at least one movie a week until I finish it or I get bored. Sometimes I'll probably post a bit more frequently. At least once, I'll sour on a movie or decided a different movie is a more important introduction to a style of film and relegate a movie to the "fans of the genre" section. I'll probably post them here too? We'll find out
